The National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nature Conservancy India Solutions (NCIS) to accelerate and expand solar energy deployment on low-impact sites across India. The MoU was formally signed by Dr. Mohammad Rihan, Director General, NISE, and Dr. Anjali Acharya, Ph.D, Managing Director, NCIS, marking a strategic partnership aimed at aligning solar energy expansion with environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
The collaboration is focused on developing solar infrastructure on degraded mine lands, low-risk wastelands, and dual land-use sites, with the support of research studies, pilot projects, and strategic planning initiatives, stated NISE. By leveraging such sites, the partnership aims to promote renewable energy growth without compromising ecological balance.
Under this agreement, NISE and NCIS will work together across multiple areas to strengthen capacity, knowledge, and innovation in solar deployment. Key areas of cooperation include:
- Joint research, studies, roadmaps, and pilot initiatives to assess and implement low-impact solar projects
- Training, awareness, and technical capacity-building workshops for stakeholders and practitioners
- Mutual technical assistance on policy, technology, and implementation strategies to ensure effective execution
- Experiential learning through curated site visits and knowledge-exchange engagements for enhanced practical understanding
- Joint publications of research studies, reports, and positioning papers to guide policy and industry practices
- Exploration of innovative models integrating solar expansion with climate action and environmental conservation
“This partnership reinforces the shared commitment of NISE and NCIS to advancing sustainable, environmentally responsible solar energy development in India,” stated NISE.
The collaboration is expected to accelerate the responsible deployment of solar energy infrastructure, providing a roadmap for low-impact site utilization and supporting India’s renewable energy and climate goals. By combining research, technical expertise, and strategic planning, NISE and NCIS aim to enhance both institutional and field-level capacity for deploying solar projects that are environmentally conscious and aligned with the nation’s clean energy ambitions.
This initiative highlights the growing emphasis on Sustainable solar development, ensuring that India’s transition to renewable energy is both rapid and ecologically responsible, while leveraging underutilized lands effectively for green energy generation.
