NOVONIX Limited announced its support for the U.S. Department of Commerce’s final determinations in antidumping and countervailing duty investigations on anode active materials (AAM) imported from China. The new tariffs are set to total at least 160%, pending a final determination by the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) that imports from China have materially impeded the U.S. AAM industry. The ITC’s decision is expected in March 2026.
Key Tariff Details
Subject to the ITC’s final decision, the tariffs include:
- Antidumping duties: 93.5% on AAM from specific Chinese companies; 102.72% China-wide for other exporters
- Countervailing duties: 66.82% to 66.86% on all Chinese AAM imports
- Duties will remain unless revoked and will be reviewed every five years
These measures apply to all anode-graphite materials, including synthetic and natural graphite, coated or uncoated, and blended materials used in lithium-ion batteries. Previously imposed 25% tariffs under Section 301 and 20% under IEEPA also remain in effect, with the IEEPA tariffs currently under review by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Strengthening U.S. Battery Supply Chains
Mike O’Kronley, CEO of NOVONIX, stated:
“These determinations represent a meaningful step toward restoring fair competition in the U.S. anode materials market. By addressing longstanding trade distortions, these measures strengthen domestic production, accelerate investment in U.S. manufacturing, and support the creation of high-quality advanced manufacturing jobs. This materially enhances NOVONIX’s competitive position as we scale synthetic graphite production in North America.”
NOVONIX emphasized that these tariffs support rules-based enforcement of U.S. trade laws, promote fair competition, and encourage long-term investment in domestic manufacturing.
NOVONIX’s Strategic Position
With the most advanced synthetic graphite production in North America, NOVONIX is well-positioned to supply secure, domestically produced anode materials. The company continues expanding high-performance synthetic graphite production, reinforcing U.S. energy security, supply chain resilience, and manufacturing competitiveness.
The announcement was authorized for release by Ron Edmonds, underscoring NOVONIX’s commitment to advancing domestic battery materials production and supporting the growth of the U.S. lithium-ion battery industry.
