NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) has announced the commercial operation of an additional 165 MW solar capacity at its Khavda-II Solar PV Project in Gujarat, further strengthening its renewable energy portfolio.
Expansion of Khavda-II Solar Project
The new operational capacity is part of NTPC Renewable Energy Limited’s 1,200 MW Khavda-II Solar PV Project, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of NGEL.
The company’s regulatory filing says, “The fourth phase of 165 MW has been declared commercially operational with effect from 00:00 hours on March 19, 2026.”
This milestone is another step forward in the phased development of the Khavda project, which is one of India’s biggest solar projects.
Increase in Total Renewable Capacity
With the commissioning of this additional capacity, the total commercial capacity of the NGEL group has increased from 9,562.68 MW to 9,727.68 MW. This growth reflects the company’s continued focus on expanding its clean energy footprint across the country.
Strategic Importance of Khavda Renewable Energy Zone
The Khavda renewable energy zone in Gujarat is one of India’s biggest clean energy centers. It is very important for the country to reach its goal of increasing non-fossil fuel capacity. The most recent addition makes the region even more important to India’s goals for renewable energy.
Strengthening India’s Energy Transition
NGEL, a big part of NTPC Limited, has been adding more solar, wind, and hybrid projects to its portfolio of renewable energy sources. The company’s work is in line with India’s larger plan to speed up the shift to clean, long-lasting energy sources.
The commissioning of the new capacity highlights NTPC Group’s ongoing commitment to scaling up green energy infrastructure and contributing to the country’s long-term energy security and climate goals.
