Ola Electric Mobility Limited has announced the readiness of its in-house developed 46100 lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cell, marking a major step in its efforts to accelerate electric mobility and build a vertically integrated energy ecosystem in India. The announcement was made on April 7, 2026, by the company’s Chairman and Managing Director, Bhavish Aggarwal, via social media and subsequently disclosed to stock exchanges.
Regulatory Disclosure and Compliance
In accordance with listing rules for disclosures made by promoters and key managerial personnel, the news was officially sent to both the BSE (Scrip Code: 544225) and the National Stock Exchange (Symbol: OLAELEC). The filing, which was signed by Chief Financial Officer Deepak Rastogi from Bengaluru, said that the new battery cell is ready for use in business.
Advanced Battery Technology and Scale
The newly developed 46100 cylindrical LFP cell represents a larger form factor compared to the company’s existing 4680 nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) “Bharat Cell.” It has been designed as part of Ola Electric’s vertically integrated battery innovation program and is positioned as a step forward in scale, cost efficiency, and versatility across both electric mobility and energy storage applications.
According to the company, the 46100 LFP cell will begin integration into Ola Electric’s products starting next quarter, supporting its next phase of growth.
Proven Deployment of Existing Cells
Ola Electric also pointed out that thousands of Indian roads are already home to vehicles powered by its older 4680 Bharat Cells. These cars have driven several million kilometres in real-world conditions, showing that the company’s in-house battery technology is reliable and works well.
Strategic Implications for EV Ecosystem
The switch to LFP chemistry is expected to bring a number of benefits, such as lower vehicle costs, faster adoption of electric vehicles, and a strong base for future battery energy storage solutions. The company also said that the development fits with its plans to grow Gigafactory operations and improve manufacturing in the US.
Part of Broader “End ICE Age” Vision
The announcement fits with Ola Electric’s larger “End ICE Age” campaign, which aims to speed up the switch from cars with internal combustion engines. The initiative includes things like programs to make things more affordable, service guarantees, vehicle buyback programs, and giving customers the benefits of the Production Linked Incentive (PLI).
With this milestone, Ola Electric continues to advance its long-term vision of building a comprehensive energy ecosystem that extends beyond electric vehicles to include battery manufacturing and energy storage solutions.
