Power Grid Invites Bids for 765 kV Transmission Line in Andhra Pradesh

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has invited bids for a major transmission project aimed at strengthening renewable energy infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh, particularly to support upcoming green hydrogen and green ammonia developments in the Visakhapatnam region. The initiative forms part of a broader effort to expand high-capacity transmission networks in southern India.

The project, issued under Transmission Line Package TL05, is being implemented through tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB). It is a key component of a larger transmission network designed to enable Phase One of clean energy projects in the region. The scope includes the construction of the Khammam–Pendurthi–Visakhapatnam 765 kV double-circuit transmission line, which has been identified as Part Two of the overall corridor development.

The proposed high-voltage transmission corridor should make it possible to move electricity over long distances with very few losses. This will make it a reliable backbone for industrial power demand. It will also make it easier to connect large-scale renewable energy sources with industrial clusters, which will help the move toward cleaner fuels and low-carbon industrial processes.

The adoption of 765 kV transmission technology is intended to ensure efficient transfer of large volumes of electricity over long distances while maintaining grid stability. This is particularly critical for energy-intensive applications such as electrolytic hydrogen production, which require continuous, high-capacity power supply for consistent operations.

The project also fits with government plans to get more private companies involved in building transmission infrastructure and make large-scale power evacuation systems work better. The transmission line is expected to be very important in speeding up the use of renewable energy in the Visakhapatnam area because it will allow for strong connections.

According to the bidding schedule, documents are available from March 23 to April 4, with online submissions due by April 6 at 11:00 am via the PRANIT portal. Technical bids will be opened on the same day at 11:30 am. The tender is being managed from POWERGRID’s Gurugram office, with a document fee of ₹25,000. While the earnest money deposit is listed as zero, final financial commitments will be determined through the competitive bidding process.

Once the transmission project is finished, it should greatly increase the amount of renewable energy that can be used in the area and help big industrial decarbonisation efforts.
