POWERGRID Appoints Akhilesh Pathak as Director (Projects)

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has appointed Akhilesh Pathak as Director (Projects), effective September 30, 2026. He assumed charge following an order issued by the Ministry of Power on the same date. His tenure will extend until May 31, 2028, the date of his superannuation, or until further orders, whichever occurs earlier.

The POWERGRID Board of Directors approved Pathak’s appointment as an Additional Director [Director (Projects)] during its meeting held on September 30, 2026. Following his appointment, Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of POWERGRID, relinquished the additional charge of Director (Projects).

Pathak holds a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Mangalore University, Karnataka, which he completed in 1991. He has also undertaken the Harvard ManageMentor Programme conducted by Harvard Business School to further develop his management and leadership capabilities.

With over 32 years of experience in the power sector, Pathak brings expertise in transmission system planning, project execution, project management, business development and strategic infrastructure development. He joined POWERGRID as an Executive Trainee in 1993, as part of the organisation’s first batch, and has since held several leadership positions across the corporation.

His professional experience includes the development, execution, monitoring and commissioning of extra-high-voltage (EHV) transmission lines and substations. During his association with POWERGRID’s Project Management Department, he contributed to achieving the corporation’s highest-ever capital expenditure (CAPEX) utilisation, alongside significant asset capitalisation and transmission line additions, measured in circuit kilometres (CKM).

Pathak has also been involved in addressing complex project implementation challenges through stakeholder coordination and strategic monitoring. Among his key assignments was leading the Arun-3 SAPDC Transmission Project in Nepal, which involved managing cross-border, regulatory and geographical challenges.

In addition to project execution, he has contributed to POWERGRID’s business development initiatives, particularly through the expansion of consultancy services and efforts to generate additional revenue for the corporation.

Prior to his elevation as Director (Projects), Pathak served as Executive Director, OSD (Projects), at POWERGRID.
