Pulse Energy, a payments-first EV charging platform, has announced a strategic partnership with HPe Charge, the EV charging brand of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), to integrate over 5,000 HPCL chargers into its interoperable access and payments platform. The integration enables EV drivers to locate, access, and pay for charging at HPCL stations through a single interface.
With this partnership, HPCL joins Pulse Energy’s growing ecosystem, which already includes Shell, ChargeZone, BESCOM, Thunderplus, and other regional and national networks. The platform currently supports over 18 million electric kilometres driven monthly across its partner networks.
“India doesn’t have an EV range anxiety problem, it has an access problem,” said Akhil Jayaprakash, Co-Founder of Pulse Energy. “We’re slowly building the infrastructure no one sees, but everyone uses.”
HPCL has been expanding its EV charging presence across highways, fuel stations, and urban centres under the HPe Charge brand. The integration with Pulse Energy significantly enhances charging accessibility for intercity and long-distance EV travel.
The partnership also reduces the need for multiple apps and payment systems for EV drivers while improving infrastructure utilisation for operators. At an ecosystem level, it reflects a shift from network competition toward collaboration, addressing challenges posed by fragmented networks and proprietary apps.
As EV adoption in India accelerates, interoperability between charging networks is emerging as a crucial factor in enabling seamless long-distance electric travel. Such collaborations complement the ongoing expansion of charging infrastructure, making existing chargers more accessible and supporting mainstream EV adoption across the country.
