Power Exchange India Limited (PXIL) has announced the appointment of Vivek Singla as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Singla brings over 35 years of diverse experience in the Indian power sector—spanning generation, transmission, distribution, renewable energies and green-tech innovation.
Prior to joining PXIL, Singla served as President and Head of Green Hydrogen and Transmission Businesses at ReNew Power, where he led initiatives at the intersection of new-age energy systems and grid infrastructure.
His academic credentials include the Delhi Institute of Technology, FMS Delhi University and ISB Hyderabad—underlining his blend of technical and strategic leadership.
On his new role, Singla commented:
“I am honoured to lead PXIL at a pivotal time when the Indian power sector is undergoing a significant transformation. I look forward to working with the experienced team at PXIL and all our stakeholders to drive sustainable growth, enhance market efficiency, and introduce innovative solutions that cater to the dynamic needs of the sector.”
Founded as India’s first institutionally-promoted power exchange, PXIL is backed by the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) and the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX). It operates multiple power market segments including Day-Ahead, Real-Time, Intra-Day, Weekly and Monthly contracts across conventional, hydro and renewable energy sources.
Analysts point to Singla’s appointment as timely, given PXIL’s ambitions to expand its footprint in renewables, energy storage, and grid-services markets. His proven expertise in business turnaround, scale-up, mergers & acquisitions and regulatory affairs is seen as a strategic fit for the exchange’s growth phase.
With India’s electricity system at a critical juncture—balancing conventional supply, renewables growth, grid flexibility, and energy-storage integration—PXIL aims to play an increasingly vital role in facilitating market liquidity, price transparency and product innovation. Singla’s leadership is expected to steer the exchange as it explores newer trading segments such as Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) contracts, energy-efficiency sales and dispatchable-storage linked power contracts.
