REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Limited, has successfully handed over two intra-state transmission project special purpose vehicles (SPVs) in Maharashtra to Ceigall India Limited and Tata Power Company Limited. The transfer marks a key milestone in strengthening the state’s power transmission infrastructure through the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) mechanism.
Details of the Project SPVs
The two transmission SPVs were incorporated by RECPDCL to implement critical power evacuation and grid-strengthening projects in Maharashtra. Following the competitive bidding process, Ceigall India Limited and Tata Power Company Limited emerged as the successful bidders and have now taken over ownership and execution responsibilities for the respective projects.
The handover was completed after fulfilling all procedural requirements, including execution of share purchase agreements and transfer of project assets, in line with regulatory guidelines.
Strengthening Maharashtra’s Transmission Network
The transmission projects are aimed at enhancing grid reliability and ensuring efficient power evacuation to meet growing electricity demand across Maharashtra. Once completed, the projects will support improved system stability, reduce transmission losses, and facilitate the integration of renewable energy into the state grid.
RECPDCL, as the bid process coordinator, played a central role in conceptualising, structuring, and awarding the projects under the TBCB framework, which is designed to promote transparency, efficiency, and private sector participation in transmission development.
Role of Ceigall India and Tata Power
Ceigall India Limited, known for its infrastructure execution capabilities, and Tata Power, one of India’s largest integrated power companies, will now take forward the development, construction, and operation of the respective transmission assets. Both companies bring extensive experience in delivering large-scale infrastructure and power projects.
The successful handover reflects continued investor confidence in India’s transmission sector and the effectiveness of the TBCB model in attracting credible developers.
RECPDCL’s Ongoing Mandate
RECPDCL continues to play a vital role in the development of transmission infrastructure across the country by acting as a nodal agency for bidding and project structuring. The company remains focused on enabling timely creation of power transmission assets to support India’s evolving energy landscape, including rising electricity demand and renewable energy integration.
The Maharashtra SPV handover further reinforces RECPDCL’s commitment to facilitating robust, future-ready power infrastructure through competitive and transparent processes.
