On March 17, 2026, the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the STQC Directorate under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology in New Delhi was a big step toward making India’s solar ecosystem stronger. The Secretary of MeitY was there when the agreement was signed.
The collaboration brings together two key institutions:
- Standardisation Testing and Quality Certification Directorate (STQC), MeitY
- National Institute of Solar Energy under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy
Focus on Strengthening Solar Infrastructure
The MoU represents a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing testing, certification, and standardisation capabilities for solar technologies in India. It is expected to play a vital role in improving quality assurance across the renewable energy sector.
Key Highlights of the Collaboration
- Establishment of Solar PV module testing facilities
- Technical support from NISE in “designing, setting up, and operationalizing testing infrastructure”
- Capacity building and training programs for STQC scientists in solar PV module and system testing
- Joint initiatives in “standardization, testing, and certification of solar technologies”
Building Capacity and Driving Innovation
NISE will help build advanced testing infrastructure by sharing its technical knowledge through this partnership. The partnership also aims to give STQC scientists the skills and knowledge they need to do high-quality testing and certification.
The initiative aims to create a strong foundation for consistent standards and reliable performance of solar technologies deployed across the country.
Boost to India’s Renewable Energy Ecosystem
By improving testing capabilities and encouraging consistent standards, this joint effort is expected to greatly improve India’s solar ecosystem. The partnership will help innovation, make things more reliable, and speed up the use of solar energy solutions by making sure that quality is better.
Together, STQC and NISE are working towards building a robust framework that supports the growth of clean and sustainable energy in India, aligning with the country’s broader renewable energy goals and long-term sustainability vision.
