Tata Motors has begun delivering its Prima E.55S electric prime movers to BillionE Mobility. This is a big step toward getting more heavy-duty vehicles with no emissions in India. The company also confirmed an additional order of 250 units along with the first handover. This shows that there is a growing demand for electric trucks in commercial logistics.
Deployment Across Key Freight Corridors
The electric truck fleet will be put into service on major freight routes in stages. These routes include Gujarat, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi NCR, and Haryana. These vehicles will mostly be used to move industrial goods like steel and cement over long distances, which will make logistics operations more sustainable.
Advanced Electric Truck Platform and Performance
The Prima E.55S is developed on Tata Motors’ i-MoEV electric vehicle architecture and is equipped with a 450 kWh battery pack, described as the largest in its class in India. The truck offers a driving range of up to 350 km on a single charge. It features a full-electric drivetrain with an integrated e-axle, regenerative braking, a 3-speed Auto Shift transmission, and dual-gun fast-charging capability.
Safety and Technology Features
The car has a lot of safety features, such as a Driver Monitoring System, Lane Departure Warning, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, Electronic Braking System, and Cruise Control. It also has an optional Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) that makes driving safer and more efficient.
Growing Electric Fleet and Expansion Plans
ChargeZone, associated with BillionE Mobility, is supporting the ecosystem for electric trucking. BillionE Mobility has outlined plans to acquire 1,500 heavy-duty electric vehicles over the next six to eighteen months. The company reported that it has already achieved over 3 million clean energy kilometres through its existing fleet of more than 125 electric trucks since starting operations in 2024.
Industry Push Towards Sustainable Mobility
Tata Motors continues to expand its alternative fuel portfolio, which includes battery electric, CNG, LNG, hydrogen internal combustion, and hydrogen fuel cell technologies. Its nationwide service network spans over 3,200 touchpoints under the Sampoorna Seva 2.0 programme.
Rajesh Kaul, Vice President and Business Head – Trucks at Tata Motors, stated that the Prima E.55S has been developed with a focus on performance, uptime, energy efficiency, and total cost of ownership, key factors for scaling electric trucking in India.
