Tata Motors has secured orders for more than 3,400 electric commercial vehicles (eCVs), marking another significant milestone in India’s transition towards sustainable transportation. The latest bookings span freight transportation, logistics operations, and passenger mobility services, reflecting the growing adoption of electric mobility by fleet operators and businesses.
The order book comprises nearly 2,000 electric small commercial vehicles (SCVs) and pick-up trucks, around 900 electric trucks, and 500 electric buses. These vehicles will be deployed across a wide range of industries and applications, including e-commerce deliveries, logistics, FMCG and FMCD distribution, as well as heavy-duty sectors such as cement, steel, mining and tarmac operations. The electric buses will cater to both intra-city and inter-city public transport requirements.
The latest orders underscore the increasing confidence of commercial fleet operators in electric vehicles as businesses look to reduce operating costs and meet sustainability goals. Demand is rising across both last-mile delivery services and heavy commercial transportation, driven by advancements in vehicle technology, improved charging infrastructure and supportive government initiatives.
Over the past year, Tata Motors has significantly expanded its electric commercial vehicle portfolio to address diverse customer requirements. For urban logistics and last-mile delivery, the company offers the Ace Pro EV, Ace EV and Intra EV, which are designed for efficient intra-city operations.
In the medium and heavy commercial vehicle segment, Tata Motors now offers the Ultra EV range for applications between 7 tonnes and 12 tonnes, along with the Prima EV 55T electric tractor and Prima EV 28T electric tipper. These vehicles are built to support demanding industrial, infrastructure and long-haul logistics operations while reducing emissions.
For passenger transportation, the company continues to strengthen its electric bus portfolio with the Starbus EV and Ultra EV buses, which are increasingly being adopted by public transport operators for city and inter-city routes.
Tata Motors has already established a strong presence in India’s electric commercial vehicle market. The company currently has more than 3,800 electric buses operating across multiple cities and over 17,000 electric small commercial vehicles serving logistics and delivery networks nationwide.
To support the growing electric vehicle ecosystem, Tata Motors has partnered with more than 14 charge point operators to expand charging infrastructure and improve accessibility for customers. It has also tied up with banks and non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) to offer financing solutions for commercial EV buyers.
Additionally, the company provides digital fleet management through its Fleet Edge platform, along with uptime assurance programmes that help fleet operators monitor vehicle performance, improve operational efficiency and maximise fleet availability as electric mobility adoption continues to grow across India.
