Torrent Power Limited has appointed Vikas Poddar as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Whole-Time Key Managerial Personnel (KMP), effective August 21, 2026. The appointment marks a leadership transition in the company’s finance function following Saurabh Mashruwala’s planned retirement.
The company’s Board of Directors approved Poddar’s appointment at its meeting held on August 20, 2026. Mashruwala stepped down from his position as CFO and Whole-Time KMP at the close of business hours on August 20, following his decision to retire. He will, however, continue with Torrent Power as Executive Director to support the company during the transition.
In his new role, Poddar will take responsibility for Torrent Power’s financial leadership and will also serve as the KMP authorised to determine the materiality of events and make disclosures to the stock exchanges under Regulation 30 of the SEBI Listing Regulations.
Vikas Poddar brings extensive finance experience
Poddar is a Chartered Accountant and holds an MBA from the National University of Singapore. He brings more than 27 years of experience across finance, strategic planning, business performance and leadership roles.
Before joining Torrent Power, Poddar served as Chief Financial Officer at Indus Towers, one of India’s leading telecommunications infrastructure companies. During his tenure, he was associated with a business generating more than USD 3.5 billion in revenue and listed on Indian stock exchanges.
Poddar has also held several senior finance positions at Vodafone, gaining experience across both Indian and international operations. His previous responsibilities included serving as Head of FP&A and Decision Support in India, as well as Regional Finance Controller and Finance Director in the UK.
At Vodafone, his responsibilities covered areas including strategic planning, financial performance management and digital transformation. This experience adds a combination of financial expertise and large-scale corporate management capabilities to his new position at Torrent Power.
Earlier in his career, Poddar held finance management positions at ITC Limited, further strengthening his experience across major corporate and business environments.
Leadership transition at Torrent Power
The appointment comes as the power sector continues to undergo significant transformation, driven by renewable energy expansion, electrification, energy storage and evolving power-market dynamics. Strong financial leadership is increasingly important for companies operating across conventional and emerging energy businesses as they manage capital-intensive investments and long-term growth strategies.
Poddar’s experience across energy-related, telecommunications and diversified corporate businesses is expected to support Torrent Power’s financial and strategic priorities. Meanwhile, Mashruwala’s continued role as Executive Director is expected to help ensure continuity during the transition.
The leadership change strengthens Torrent Power’s senior management team as the company continues to navigate opportunities across India’s evolving power and energy landscape.
