The electric motorcycle company Ultraviolette from Bengaluru has teamed up with Bolt.Earth will set up a nationwide network of Type-6 DC fast chargers, which is India’s official national standard for charging light electric vehicles (LEVs). The goal of the partnership is to create an interoperable public charging ecosystem that makes it easier for people to use electric vehicles and encourages more people to buy them.
Charging stations are already operational in Kerala, Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, Delhi, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu, with plans to expand to 50 upgraded stations within the next two months. Over the next 24 months, Bolt.Earth plans to deploy 2,000 chargers, targeting one of India’s largest public fast-charging networks specifically tailored for advanced two-wheelers.
Key Features of the Partnership:
- All chargers are compatible with Ultraviolette’s current and future vehicle lineup, including the X-47 and F77, without hardware modifications.
- 3kW DC chargers can charge vehicles from 0–80% in 2.5 hours and 0–100% in 3.5 hours.
- Future 6kW and 12kW Blaze DC chargers will enable faster turnaround on high-density routes and urban corridors.
- Real-time charger monitoring and scan-to-pay functionality are integrated via Ultraviolette and Bolt.Earth mobile apps.
- Chargers feature industrial-grade safety with short circuit, over/under voltage, reverse polarity, earth fault, and emergency shutdown protections.
The Bureau of Indian Standards published Type-6 as IS 17017 (Part 2/Section 6) and the International Electrotechnical Commission published it as IEC 62196-6. It covers e-bikes, scooters, motorcycles, e-rickshaws, delivery vehicles, and tricycles. Ultraviolette has built its cars around this standard, showing that it cares more about open, interoperable charging than proprietary systems.
Niraj Rajmohan, Co-founder & CTO of Ultraviolette, said: “Ultraviolette’s vision is to push the boundaries of electric mobility not only through product innovation, but by helping shape the ecosystem that will power the future of mobility. As public charging infrastructure evolves, interoperability will be critical to accelerating EV adoption, improving rider confidence, and enabling the next stage of growth for electric mobility in India.”
S. Raghav Bharadwaj, CEO & Co-founder of Bolt.Earth, added: “Easy access to fast charging is the foundation of a truly scalable EV ecosystem in India, especially during the transitional period. It must feel as natural as refueling, always within reach.”
This partnership addresses a long-standing gap in public DC fast-charging infrastructure for two-wheelers and strengthens Ultraviolette’s commitment to standardized, accessible, and future-ready EV mobility across India.
