In a significant development for West Bengal’s renewable energy and manufacturing sectors, Vikram Solar has announced plans to invest ₹27,000 crore in setting up a state-of-the-art energy transition manufacturing hub in the state. The proposed project is expected to strengthen the region’s clean energy ecosystem while boosting industrial growth and employment opportunities.
he proposed investment is expected to emerge as one of India’s largest clean energy manufacturing projects and has the potential to create nearly 12,000 green jobs, significantly strengthening Bengal’s industrial and employment landscape.
According to the proposal, the project will develop an integrated solar manufacturing ecosystem covering the complete value chain — from ingots and wafers to solar cells and photovoltaic (PV) modules. Such an integrated setup is expected to enhance India’s self-reliance in solar manufacturing while supporting the country’s broader renewable energy ambitions.
Vikram Solar has reportedly indicated a requirement of nearly 700 acres of land for the mega project, underlining the scale and long-term vision behind the investment.
The proposed manufacturing hub also reflects West Bengal’s growing attractiveness as an investment destination, particularly in emerging sectors such as renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, and sustainability-led industries.
As India advances its clean energy ambitions, large-scale investments such as this are expected to strengthen the country’s renewable energy manufacturing base, enhance self-reliance, reduce dependence on imports, and create significant employment opportunities.
The proposed ₹27,000-crore investment could further reinforce West Bengal’s position as an emerging hub for clean energy manufacturing, supporting the state’s growing role in India’s transition toward a greener and more sustainable energy future.
