Waaree Transpower, a subsidiary of Waaree Energies, has secured an order worth around ₹160 crore from an energy storage technology and solutions provider for the supply of 8.3 MVA medium-voltage (MV) skids for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) applications. The order is expected to strengthen Waaree Transpower’s presence in the electrical infrastructure segment, amid the growing demand for energy storage solutions.
The purchase includes plug-and-play, IEC-compliant MV skid solutions made especially for BESS applications. The equipment may be transported and installed as a packed unit between project locations because it is integrated into a 20-foot container. Additionally, its shippable and stackable design is meant to give large-scale energy storage deployments more flexibility.
Shipments under the order have already commenced from July 2026, giving the contract an immediate execution component. The development also marks a significant step in Waaree Transpower’s efforts to expand its business beyond conventional transformer manufacturing and participate more directly in the electrical infrastructure requirements of the energy transition.
MV skids play a critical role in BESS installations by integrating key medium-voltage electrical equipment into a compact, factory-assembled package. Such systems can simplify project deployment while supporting the connection of battery-storage assets with wider electrical networks.
The timing of the order is significant as BESS is becoming increasingly important to India’s power system. Rapid growth in solar and wind generation is creating a greater need for flexible resources that can store electricity when renewable generation is high and discharge it when demand rises or renewable output falls.
Additionally, energy storage can help manage the intermittent nature of renewable energy sources, better use transmission and distribution infrastructure, and handle grid-balancing requirements. Demand is accordingly shifting from generation equipment alone to the larger ecosystem of transformers, switchgear, power-conversion systems, and grid-interconnection infrastructure as renewable capacity grows.
As a result, the ₹160 crore order is both a significant addition to Waaree Transpower has business pipeline and a calculated move further into the BESS electrical infrastructure ecosystem, where demand is anticipated to increase in tandem with India’s shift to a more adaptable and renewable power system.
