Acciona Energía has announced the sale of a 64-megawatt (MW) small hydropower portfolio in Spain as part of its ongoing asset rotation strategy aimed at optimizing capital allocation and strengthening its financial position.
The transaction involves the divestment of 17 mini-hydropower plants located in the regions of Navarra and La Rioja. These assets have individual capacities ranging between 1 MW and 6.2 MW and operate under long-term concession agreements, ensuring stable but regulated revenue streams.
The portfolio has been acquired by White Summit Capital, an infrastructure investment firm focused on clean energy transition assets. The deal is valued at approximately €66 million and carries no associated debt, making it a clean asset transfer for both parties.
According to the company, the transaction is expected to generate a capital gain of around €55 million. The closing of the deal is anticipated in the coming weeks, subject to customary regulatory approvals.
This divestment is consistent with Acciona Energía’s broader strategy of recycling mature renewable assets to fund new growth opportunities in wind, solar, storage, and green hydrogen projects. Over the past year, the company has actively streamlined its portfolio across multiple geographies, including Spain, the United States, Latin America, and other international markets.
The hydropower assets being sold form part of Spain’s well-established small hydro sector, which plays an important role in decentralized renewable energy generation. While these plants provide stable long-term output, their limited scalability makes them less strategic compared to newer large-scale renewable technologies.
With this transaction, Acciona Energía continues to reposition itself toward higher-growth renewable segments while maintaining its focus on decarbonization and long-term sustainability goals. The company remains one of Europe’s leading integrated renewable energy operators, with a diversified portfolio spanning wind, solar, hydro, biomass, and storage technologies.
