Adani Power says it has gotten a Letter of Award (LoA) from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) to send 1,600 MW of electricity from one of its new ultra-supercritical thermal power projects (USCTPP). On March 15, 2026, the announcement was made in Ahmedabad.
The award comes after Adani Power successfully participated in a highly competitive bidding process conducted by MSEDCL. The company emerged as the lowest-tariff bidder, offering electricity at a combined tariff of Rs 5.30 per kWh. As part of the agreement, the power will be supplied under a 25-year Power Supply Agreement (PSA), with supply expected to begin from the financial year 2030-31.
Competitive Bid Secures Long-Term Power Supply
This new project is another big win for Adani Power in the thermal power sector in India, which is seeing more investments again. The company has been taking on more and more responsibilities as a provider of new power generation capacity, which is necessary to meet the country’s rising electricity needs.
India is planning to add around 100 GW of thermal power capacity by 2032 to ensure stable and reliable electricity supply alongside renewable energy expansion. Adani Power’s participation in such projects is expected to support these national capacity-addition targets.
During the financial year 2025-26, the company has secured five long-term PSA bids with a combined capacity of 10,400 MW, strengthening its position as a major private sector electricity generator in the country.
CEO Highlights Growing Power Demand
Commenting on the development, S. B. Khyalia, CEO of Adani Power Ltd., said:
“With India’s power demand continuing to rise steadily, long-term and reliable capacity addition is critical to ensure energy security. This LoA from MSEDCL reflects the competitiveness of Adani Power’s cost structure, our ability to deliver dependable baseload power and our commitment to supporting India’s growing electricity needs through long-term partnerships. As India’s leading private power producer, we are keen to support Maharashtra’s and the nation’s ambitious development goals with reliable and affordable electricity supply.”
Strengthening Long-Term Power Contracts
Adani Power now has long-term PSAs for 13.3 GW of capacity out of its 23.8 GW pipeline that is currently being built. This is a big step toward the company’s goal of putting almost all of its upcoming generation capacity under long-term contracts.
Currently, more than 95% of Adani Power’s operating capacity of 18.15 GW is tied to medium- and long-term PSAs. Additionally, over 55% of its upcoming 23.8 GW capacity has already been secured under 25-year power supply agreements.
These long-term contracts provide greater certainty in terms of electricity volumes and revenue visibility, while also helping utilities secure dependable power supply for the future. As electricity demand continues to rise across India, such long-term partnerships between generators and distribution companies are expected to play a crucial role in maintaining stable and reliable energy supply.
