Agastya Green Energy, part of the Anubhav Agarwal Group, has begun construction of a ₹ 7,800-crore integrated solar manufacturing facility at the Orvakal Industrial Area in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. The project will add 12 GW of ingot and 12 GW of wafer manufacturing capacity to the company’s existing solar cell and module operations.
The investment marks a major step in Agastya Energy’s plans to expand its presence across the photovoltaic manufacturing value chain. By adding upstream ingot and wafer production, the company aims to increase domestic manufacturing and strengthen integration between different stages of solar panel production.
The project was formally launched with a groundbreaking ceremony and is expected to generate more than 3,500 employment opportunities once the facility and associated operations are developed.
The new manufacturing complex will bring ingot, wafer, solar cell and module production under an integrated structure. This approach is expected to give Agastya Energy greater control over its manufacturing chain while improving coordination between upstream and downstream production.
The expansion comes as India’s solar industry places increasing emphasis on developing domestic manufacturing capabilities. Ingot and wafer production represents an important upstream stage in the photovoltaic supply chain, and expanding capacity in these segments could help reduce reliance on imported components.
Anubhav Agarwal, Chairman of Anubhav Agarwal Group, said the ₹7,800 crore investment reflects the group’s long-term commitment to India’s energy transition and its objective of building large-scale manufacturing capabilities.
Kurnool is set to become an important location for Agastya Energy’s expanded manufacturing operations in Andhra Pradesh. The new 12 GW ingot and 12 GW wafer facilities will complement the company’s existing solar cell and module manufacturing capabilities.
The integrated approach could also create opportunities for a wider industrial ecosystem around the facility. Suppliers of manufacturing equipment, raw materials, engineering services and other supporting technologies could benefit from the development of additional solar manufacturing capacity in the region.
India has been increasingly focused on establishing an end-to-end domestic photovoltaic manufacturing ecosystem as solar deployment continues to grow. While cell and module manufacturing capacity has expanded significantly, upstream segments such as ingots and wafers remain critical to achieving deeper domestic value addition.
Agastya Energy’s latest investment therefore represents a move towards greater backward integration within the company’s solar manufacturing operations. The addition of 12 GW each of ingot and wafer capacity will expand its manufacturing footprint while connecting upstream production with its existing cell and module facilities.
The project also adds to the growing concentration of renewable energy manufacturing investments in states such as Andhra Pradesh, which are seeking to attract large-scale clean energy and industrial projects.
With the ₹7,800 crore commitment, Agastya Energy is positioning itself to participate in India’s expanding solar manufacturing market while contributing to the development of a more integrated domestic photovoltaic supply chain.
