AIIMS Nagpur has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Technology Limited (MAHAPREIT) for the development of a 4 MW solar power project on its campus.
The agreement was signed by Dr. Prashant P. Joshi, Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Nagpur, and Santosh Wahane, Chief General Manager of MAHAPREIT, in the presence of senior officials from both organizations. The project is expected to strengthen the institute’s clean energy infrastructure and support its long-term sustainability objectives.
MAHAPREIT is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Mahatma Phule Backward Class Development Corporation (MPBCDC), a Government of Maharashtra Public Sector Undertaking (PSU). The organization plays a key role in promoting renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure projects across the state.
AIIMS Nagpur has consistently focused on integrating renewable energy solutions into its operations. As part of its ongoing efforts, the institute has been operating a 500 kW solar power plant since 2019 through the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). Additionally, a 200 kW rooftop solar power system is currently being installed through NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVN), further expanding its renewable energy capacity.
The proposed 4 MW solar power project marks another major milestone in AIIMS Nagpur’s sustainability journey. Once operational, the project is expected to contribute significantly to the institute’s energy requirements while reducing dependence on conventional power sources. It will also help lower carbon emissions and promote environmentally responsible practices across the campus.
The initiative aligns with India’s broader renewable energy and climate goals, encouraging public institutions to adopt cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions. Through this collaboration with MAHAPREIT, AIIMS Nagpur aims to enhance energy efficiency, reduce its environmental footprint, and set an example for sustainable infrastructure development in the healthcare sector.
