Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Limited (ARE&M) has announced a series of senior management appointments effective April 1, 2026, as part of its leadership succession strategy aimed at strengthening its presence in advanced battery technologies and global markets.
New Leadership for Strategic Business Areas
The company has appointed Dwarakanadha Reddy as Business Head of its subsidiary, Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies (ARACT), succeeding Indeevar Govardhanagiri. In parallel, Divakar Sukumaran has been named Chief Marketing Officer – International, taking over from Vijayanand Samudrala.
ARE&M also confirmed that the tenures of Govardhanagiri, Samudrala, and C. Narasimhulu Naidu concluded on March 31, 2026, in line with previously announced transitions.
Focus on Advanced Cells and Global Expansion
Reddy will be in charge of operations for advanced cell development, battery pack manufacturing, and battery energy storage systems (BESS) in his new job. He has almost 30 years of experience in manufacturing, supply chain, and infrastructure, and he is expected to be a key player in speeding up the company’s efforts in electric mobility and energy storage.
Sukumaran, who brings over 25 years of experience in sales and marketing, will focus on strengthening ARE&M’s international presence. He has previously held senior roles within the company, including heading the Asia-Pacific business.
Supporting Long-Term Growth Strategy
The changes in leadership are in line with ARE&M’s larger plan to grow beyond its traditional lead-acid battery business and into lithium-ion technologies and integrated energy solutions. The company is moving forward with plans for a Gigafactory and a pilot plant, both of which should be up and running by the end of FY26.
This strategic transition is supported by global collaborations, including a technical licensing agreement with China-based Gotion High-Tech for LFP cell technology, and the establishment of a US subsidiary to enhance international operations.
Industry Context and Competitive Landscape
The appointments come at a time when India’s energy storage sector is becoming more competitive, with companies like Exide Industries also putting a lot of money into lithium-ion technologies. ARE&M’s specific leadership roles for ARACT and international marketing show that the company is taking a targeted approach to growing its new energy business.
Strengthening Execution and Market Position
With these changes, ARE&M aims to ensure continuity in leadership while enhancing execution capabilities across key growth segments. The appointments underscore the company’s commitment to advancing its clean energy portfolio and supporting India’s transition toward sustainable mobility and energy solutions.
