Andhra Pradesh Emerges as One of India’s Fastest-Growing Renewable Energy States

Brookfield Launches Lumara to Accelerate Renewable Energy Development in India

Andhra Pradesh has emerged as one of India’s fastest-growing renewable energy hubs, recording a significant surge in renewable energy capacity additions under the current government.

According to data presented by the MNRE in the Lok Sabha in response to an unstarred question raised by Dr. M. K. Vishnu Prasad, Member of Parliament from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh added 3,865.63 MW of renewable energy capacity during 2025-26, representing nearly a fourfold increase compared with the 1,085.15 MW added in 2024-25.

The data also underscores the state’s strong revival in the renewable energy sector. Capacity additions remained comparatively low over the three years from 2021-22 to 2023-24, with Andhra Pradesh adding 125.42 MW, 148.62 MW, and 59.15 MW, respectively. Growth gained momentum in 2024-25, when annual additions exceeded 1 GW, before rising sharply to nearly 3.9 GW in 2025-26.

The substantial increase reflects Andhra Pradesh’s renewed emphasis on clean energy through investor-friendly policies, faster project clearances, improved implementation, and large-scale investments in RE infrastructure. These measures have helped position the state as an attractive destination for renewable energy investments, making a significant contribution to India’s clean energy transition.

In its reply, the Union government also informed Parliament that India has already achieved the milestone of sourcing 50% of its installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel sources, reaching the target five years ahead of the 2030 deadline. The government further stated that the country remains on course to achieve 500 GW of installed non-fossil fuel-based electricity capacity by 2030.

The sharp increase in Andhra Pradesh’s renewable energy capacity additions further strengthens the state’s role in advancing India’s clean energy goals while fostering new investments, generating employment opportunities, and supporting sustainable economic growth across the state.
