ENGIE has commissioned two solar power projects with a combined capacity of 450 MW in Rajasthan and Gujarat, expanding its renewable energy portfolio in India. The projects comprise a 250 MW solar plant in Khaba, Rajasthan, and a 200 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant at the Khavda Renewable Energy Park in Gujarat. Both facilities are fully operational and are expected to contribute to India’s renewable electricity generation.
The projects were developed through ENGIE’s wholly owned subsidiaries, Khaba Renewable Energy Private Limited and Enren II Energy Private Limited, respectively. Approximately 80% of the workforce employed during construction was recruited locally, supporting employment in the project regions.
250 MW Khaba Solar Project in Rajasthan
The 250 MW Khaba solar power project is located in Barmer district, Rajasthan. The facility is expected to generate approximately 650 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually.
According to the company, the project is also expected to avoid around 180 kilotonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year by generating electricity from renewable sources.
200 MW Khavda Solar Project in Gujarat
The second project is a 200 MW solar photovoltaic plant located within the Khavda Renewable Energy Park in the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat. Developed through Enren II Energy Private Limited, the facility is expected to generate approximately 350 GWh of electricity annually.
The project is backed by a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL), providing a long-term arrangement for the sale of electricity generated by the plant.
ENGIE Expands Renewable Energy and Storage Portfolio
The commissioning of the two solar projects adds to ENGIE’s renewable energy development activities in India. The company has approximately 2 GW of renewable energy capacity that is operational or under construction in the country.
ENGIE is also expanding into battery energy storage systems (BESS) and hybrid renewable energy projects. In November 2025, the company secured its first battery storage project in India, with a capacity of 280 MW/560 MWh.
In January 2026, ENGIE secured a hybrid project combining 200 MW of solar power capacity with a 100 MW/600 MWh battery energy storage system.
Alongside renewable generation and storage, the company is exploring opportunities in corporate power purchase agreements and energy management solutions to address evolving electricity market requirements.
The commissioning of the Khaba and Khavda projects strengthens ENGIE’s presence in India’s renewable energy sector, adding 450 MW of operational solar capacity to its portfolio.
