Neopulse Energy Private Limited has been appointed as the Owner’s Engineer by Coal India Limited (CIL) for its 80 MW/320 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Odisha. The company will provide independent technical support during the pre-award and post-award stages of the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract.
The appointment will involve technical assistance during the EPC tendering process and oversight of project execution, covering engineering reviews, quality assessments, construction and commissioning activities.
Technical Support During EPC Tendering
During the pre-award stage, Neopulse Energy will assist Coal India with preparing technical specifications, defining equipment requirements and evaluating technical bids submitted by prospective EPC contractors.
This support is intended to help assess technical proposals and ensure that the selected contractor meets the project’s specified requirements.
Engineering and Construction Oversight
Following the award of the EPC contract, Neopulse Energy will review the contractor’s engineering designs, vendor documentation and quality plans. Its responsibilities will also include technical oversight during equipment manufacturing, construction, testing and commissioning.
The Owner’s Engineer role will provide CIL with independent technical support throughout the project development process, from contractor selection to the commissioning of the battery storage system.
Battery Storage Expansion in India
Coal India’s 80 MW/320 MWh project in Odisha adds to the development of battery energy storage infrastructure in India. Battery storage systems can help integrate renewable energy into the electricity grid by storing surplus electricity and making it available when demand increases or renewable generation declines.
The project forms part of the broader expansion of energy storage infrastructure needed to support grid flexibility and the integration of renewable power.
Through this appointment, Neopulse Energy will support Coal India in the technical evaluation, engineering review and execution oversight of the battery storage project.
