The Andhra Pradesh government has announced a major investment plan of around ₹8,000 crore to upgrade and strengthen its power transmission infrastructure. The initiative, led by the Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (APTRANSCO), includes ongoing projects worth ₹5,000 crore along with an additional ₹3,000 crore pipeline under preparation.
Officials stated that the move is aimed at ensuring reliable and uninterrupted electricity supply across the state while addressing the “growing power demand efficiently.”
Focus on Substations and Network Expansion
As part of the plan, the government is accelerating the development of high-capacity substations, including 400 kV, 220 kV, and 132 kV systems. Authorities have directed departments to prepare a detailed implementation calendar to ensure timely execution of these projects.
The expansion will significantly enhance transmission capacity, reduce network congestion, and improve overall grid reliability key requirements as electricity demand rises across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.
Procurement, Monitoring and Execution Strategy
To streamline execution, officials have also been instructed to create a procurement roadmap for FY 2026–27 covering materials for operations, maintenance, and construction. Regular monitoring of system performance, reduction of outages, and strict adherence to timelines have been emphasised.
This structured approach reflects the government’s focus on improving operational efficiency and ensuring that infrastructure development keeps pace with demand growth.
Supporting Industrial Growth and Energy Transition
The investment is expected to be very important for helping the state’s economy grow and businesses grow. A stronger transmission network will make it easier for power to flow smoothly, especially to industrial clusters, and will help renewable energy sources work together.
According to industry analyses, Andhra Pradesh is actively modernising its grid to handle more renewable energy and future demand. Transmission infrastructure is a key part of this change.
Building a Future-Ready Power Infrastructure
The state already has a large transmission network, and this new investment shows how serious it is about making the power system strong and ready for the future. Not only is it important to strengthen the grid to keep the supply reliable, but it is also important for long-term energy security.
The ₹8,000 crore initiative puts Andhra Pradesh in a good position to meet future needs as electricity demand rises steadily. It also supports sustainable growth and better power quality across the region.
