Birla Carbon Expands Conductive Carbon Solutions for Advanced Battery Applications

Birla Carbon, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high-quality carbon materials, is strengthening its presence in the specialty materials segment with a range of conductive carbon solutions. These materials are designed for advanced applications, including modern battery technologies and other high-performance conductive uses.

Conductive carbon materials play a critical role in battery performance by creating pathways for electrons within battery electrodes. The right conductive additive can contribute to faster charging, improved high-rate performance, and longer cycle life, while also supporting more efficient battery manufacturing. Against this backdrop, Birla Carbon will showcase its conductive carbon portfolio at The Battery Show North America 2026, taking place on October 12–15, 2026, at Huntington Place in Detroit, Michigan, USA, at Booth 3029.
Speaking about Birla Carbon’s specialty materials strategy and participation at the event, Shashank Awasthi, President, Specialty Materials, Birla Carbon, said, “Electrification is creating new performance demands across the materials value chain, and advanced carbon materials have an important role to play in meeting them. At Birla Carbon, we are combining our expertise in carbon materials with an expanding specialty portfolio to help customers address these evolving requirements.” He further added, “Established lithium-ion battery manufacturers need to showcase supply chain resilience, extended cycle life, and ever-increasing fast charging requirements, which Birla Carbon’s portfolio enables. Next-generation cell technologies, like LMFP, sodium-ion, solid-state, and metal-air, are rapidly improving by incorporating ConductexTM i carbon blacks and NanocylTM carbon nanotubes into their formulations.
Over the past several years, Birla Carbon has strengthened its capabilities in specialty materials, creating a unique portfolio of conductive carbon blacks and carbon nanotubes. At the event, Birla Carbon will present its ConductexTM i conductive carbon black grades, NanocylTM carbon nanotubes, and carbon black-CNT blend formulations, developed for a wide range of conductive applications. These solutions offer high purity, best-in-class conductivity, and excellent, uniform dispersibility. Conductex™ i carbon black grades also help reduce solvent consumption and energy use during battery electrode manufacturing, lowering production costs for customers.
For manufacturers across industries, we offer a range of conductive carbon additives to support key industry themes such as charge acceptance, battery capacity, dry coating, and solid-state. As demand for these applications continues to rise, Birla Carbon’s ongoing efforts in specialty materials are aimed at helping customers meet evolving performance requirements without compromising on quality, consistency, or supply reliability.
Birla Carbon is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of carbon black and carbon nanotubes, and an established carbon materials solutions business of the leading Indian multinational Aditya Birla Group. It serves high-value markets across specialty applications, tires, and mechanical rubber goods.  Birla Carbon is present in 14 countries, with 19 manufacturing plants and 3 R&D centers, delivering solutions across 6 continents, with global manufacturing excellence and regional agility to serve evolving customer and industry needs. Birla Carbon’s aspiration to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050 is driven by its Share the Future sustainability strategy.
