The Delhi Government has allocated ₹3,942 crore to the power sector in its 2026–27 budget, with a strong focus on electricity subsidies, rooftop solar expansion, and critical infrastructure upgrades including underground cabling.
Out of the total allocation, a significant ₹3,500 crore has been earmarked for electricity subsidies, ensuring continuation of existing benefits. Households consuming up to 200 units will continue to receive free electricity, while those using 201–400 units will get a 50% subsidy.
In a major infrastructure push, the government has doubled the allocation for underground cabling to ₹200 crore, up from ₹100 crore in the previous fiscal. The initiative aims to replace overhead high-tension (HT) and low-tension (LT) wires to improve safety, reduce accidents, and enhance urban aesthetics. Work has already begun in 28 streets of Chandni Chowk, with a project cost of around ₹160 crore.
The budget also introduces a Delhi Energy Conservation Fund, aimed at promoting energy efficiency and conservation across the capital. This marks a shift toward a more structured approach to demand-side energy management.
On the renewable front, the government has reinforced its commitment to solar adoption through PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and additional incentive-based schemes. The move is expected to accelerate rooftop solar installations and support Delhi’s transition toward energy self-reliance and clean power integration.
The latest allocation reflects a year-on-year increase from ₹3,847 crore, highlighting the government’s continued emphasis on combining affordability, infrastructure modernization, and renewable energy adoption.
