The Delhi government wants to ask the Center for help with money and policy to build more charging stations and battery-swapping stations for electric vehicles (EVs) all over the city. The move is aimed at accelerating EV adoption and strengthening the capital’s clean mobility ecosystem.
The PM E-DRIVE program, which aims to improve electric vehicle infrastructure across the country, is likely to receive the proposal. Officials said that the project will be very important for filling in the gaps in charging availability and making things easier for EV users.
Focus on Infrastructure Expansion
As part of the plan, the government is working on scaling up both public charging stations and battery swapping networks. Delhi Transco Limited has been identified as the nodal agency to implement the project and coordinate with various stakeholders.
According to officials, “the plan is to seek central assistance for setting up EV charging and battery swapping infrastructure in Delhi.”
This step is expected to improve accessibility and reduce range anxiety among EV users, encouraging more people to shift to electric mobility.
Strengthening EV Ecosystem
Delhi is doing this as part of a bigger plan to make the city the best place in India for electric vehicles. People think that there need to be more charging stations to keep up with the growing number of electric cars on the road.
Officials also emphasised that “expanding charging and swapping infrastructure is critical for scaling up EV adoption and ensuring a smooth transition to clean energy transport.”
The plan aligns with national efforts to promote sustainable mobility and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
Overall, the proposed move highlights Delhi’s commitment to strengthening its EV ecosystem by improving infrastructure, enhancing user convenience, and supporting the country’s transition towards cleaner transportation solutions.
