Eastman Auto & Power Limited has commissioned a new 800 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) panel and module manufacturing facility in Sonipat, Haryana, marking a significant expansion of the company’s presence in India’s rapidly growing renewable energy sector. The new plant strengthens domestic solar manufacturing capabilities and supports India’s broader clean energy ambitions.
With the operationalization of the facility, Eastman aims to establish itself as a backward-integrated solar solutions provider, offering a comprehensive portfolio that includes solar PV modules, grid-tied, off-grid and hybrid inverters, as well as advanced energy storage batteries. The move reflects the company’s strategy to combine solar generation with energy storage technologies to deliver integrated power solutions across multiple sectors.
The newly commissioned manufacturing unit is expected to strengthen India’s domestic solar supply chain while reducing reliance on imported solar equipment. All solar modules produced at the Sonipat facility comply with Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) norms and standards set by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), ensuring eligibility for government-backed solar programs.
According to the company, the plant will support the development of integrated “solar with storage” energy solutions, combining high-quality solar modules with energy storage systems to deliver reliable and uninterrupted electricity. These solutions are designed to address energy requirements across residential, commercial, and industrial segments, while also enabling decentralized clean energy deployment.
Commenting on the development, Shekhar Singal, Managing Director of Eastman Auto & Power, stated that the company aims to strengthen India’s domestic solar manufacturing ecosystem while promoting integrated renewable energy solutions. He emphasized that the company’s strategy aligns with the Make in India initiative, which encourages local manufacturing and technological development in strategic sectors such as renewable energy.
The facility is also expected to support national initiatives such as the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which seeks to accelerate rooftop solar installations across the country by providing financial support and incentives to households adopting solar power systems. By enabling greater availability of domestically manufactured solar modules, the plant could help accelerate the adoption of rooftop solar across India.
Eastman Auto & Power has been expanding its clean energy portfolio to include solar modules, energy storage batteries, inverters, and integrated power solutions, positioning itself as a key player in India’s evolving renewable energy ecosystem. The company’s broader strategy focuses on integrating solar generation with storage technologies to deliver reliable energy solutions and support the country’s transition toward sustainable power infrastructure.
The commissioning of the 800 MW facility comes at a time when India is rapidly expanding its renewable energy capacity and strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities to meet future demand. As the solar sector continues to grow, investments in local manufacturing infrastructure such as the Sonipat facility are expected to play a crucial role in advancing the country’s energy transition while reinforcing supply chain resilience.
