GS Engineering & Construction has formally entered India’s renewable energy sector by signing strategic agreements with local players, marking a significant step in expanding its clean energy footprint in one of the world’s fastest-growing markets.
The company signed separate memorandums of understanding with Arie Energy and Suzlon Energy. These agreements focused on wind repowering and integrated renewable energy solutions. CEO Huh Yoon-hong attended the signing ceremonies held in Delhi.
Wind Repowering and Joint Venture Plans
Under its agreement with Arie Energy, GS E&C will jointly develop wind repowering projects aimed at modernising aging wind farms by replacing older turbines with advanced, higher-capacity units.
- Target: 1 GW wind repowering projects within five years
- Plan to establish a joint venture for full project lifecycle execution
- GS E&C: project structuring, investment, financing, and off-take
- Arie Energy: local permits, land acquisition, and project management
This project is expected to improve the efficiency of power generation while lowering the risks of early-stage development.
Hybrid Renewable Energy Model with Suzlon
In partnership with Suzlon Energy, the company will develop an integrated clean energy model combining:
- Solar power
- Wind energy
- Energy storage systems (ESS)
The hybrid approach aims to provide a stable and reliable supply of electricity by using more than one energy source. GS E&C will handle financing and project structuring, while Suzlon will be in charge of technical optimisation and plant operations.
Strategic Expansion and Market Positioning
The agreements align with GS E&C’s broader strategy to:
- Add more renewable energy sources to its portfolio
- Take care of global climate commitments
- Make long-term growth in foreign markets stronger
The company is building on its earlier success with India’s Patur Solar Project, where it demonstrated its capabilities as a developer.
A company official stated, “We will diversify our business portfolio through cooperation with local partners,” adding, “By providing integrated renewable energy solutions, we will strengthen our unique position in the Indian market and accelerate our leap into an eco-friendly energy company.”
GS E&C aims to develop a robust renewable energy value chain in India by integrating wind repowering with hybrid energy solutions. The move is expected to help keep the power supply stable even when the weather changes, and it will also help the company become a leader in sustainable energy.
