HEXA Energy Services G.K. has announced the development of a 50 MWac grid-scale battery energy storage facility in Oyabe City, Toyama Prefecture, Japan, with commercial operations scheduled to begin in May 2028.
The company held a joint press conference with Oyabe City on October 8, 2026, to outline the HEXA Oyabe Battery Energy Storage Facility and its role in supporting renewable energy integration and electricity grid stability in the Hokuriku region.
The project is being developed in the Ishinada area of Oyabe City and was selected in the first round of Japan’s Long-Term Decarbonization Power Source Auction, introduced by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in fiscal 2023.
The battery storage facility is expected to charge during periods when renewable power generation, including solar power, exceeds electricity demand and discharge when supply is constrained. This operating model is intended to improve the utilization of renewable energy and provide balancing capacity to the regional power grid.
