IndiGrid and EnerGrid have commissioned a 250 MW/500 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Rajasthan, marking IndiGrid’s third commissioned utility-scale battery storage project. The RBPL project is designed to provide peak power support, improve grid flexibility and facilitate the integration of renewable energy into India’s electricity network.
The project is located in Rajasthan, a key renewable energy generation hub. With a capacity of 250 MW and energy storage of 500 MWh, the system can deliver power at its rated output for up to two hours when fully charged, subject to operating conditions.
Supporting Renewable Energy Integration
The commissioning of the RBPL project adds to IndiGrid’s portfolio of utility-scale battery energy storage assets. Standalone BESS projects can store electricity and discharge it during periods of high demand, helping balance fluctuations in power supply and consumption.
The Rajasthan project is expected to provide peak power support and enhance the flexibility of the electricity grid. Battery storage can also help integrate a greater share of renewable energy by storing surplus electricity when generation is high and supplying it when required.
Collaboration with Project Partners
The project was developed through collaboration between IndiGrid and EnerGrid, with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVN) and AmpereHour Energy also acknowledged for their roles and support.
AmpereHour Energy served as the technology partner for the project. The commissioning represents another development in IndiGrid’s battery storage portfolio as the company expands its presence in India’s energy storage sector.
