Indofast Energy, a battery-swapping solutions provider, and Hala Mobility EV-as-a-service platform have partnered to deploy 40,000 electric vehicles (EVs) for India’s last-mile delivery and logistics sector by March 2027. The partnership has already scaled to 15,000 electric vehicles in less than a year, with most of the deployed fleet currently operating across Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR and Mumbai.
Indofast Energy is backed by IndianOil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and SUN Mobility through a 50:50 joint venture. The company combines its battery-swapping infrastructure with Hala Mobility’s fleet operations to support the growing electrification of India’s commercial and last-mile mobility sector.
The companies are also targeting the cumulative deployment of 1 lakh electric vehicles by March 2028 as they work to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility among commercial fleets and delivery operators.
Battery Swapping to Support High-Utilisation EV Fleets
The next phase of deployment will initially expand across existing markets, while the companies also plan to enter Pune, Chennai and Jaipur.
According to the companies, battery swapping can help reduce charging-related downtime for high-utilisation commercial EV fleets. For delivery riders and fleet operators travelling around 80–100 km per day, a battery can reportedly be swapped in approximately two minutes, allowing vehicles to return to operations quickly and improving fleet utilisation.
The battery-swapping model can also help reduce operating costs. The companies said EVs using the model can deliver running-cost savings of up to 40% compared with petrol-powered vehicles.
“Reaching 15,000 vehicles in under a year validates that battery swapping is the default choice for fleet operators who prioritise uptime and economics,” said Rajat Malhan, Chief Business Officer, Indofast Energy.
The partnership brings together Indofast Energy’s battery-swapping network and Hala Mobility’s fleet operations to provide energy solutions for commercial and last-mile delivery fleets. The companies said the approach is designed to address range anxiety and minimise charging-related downtime for gig-economy workers and fleet operators.

The planned expansion comes as India’s last-mile delivery and logistics sector increasingly adopts electric vehicles to reduce operating costs and improve fleet efficiency. For high-frequency commercial use cases, battery swapping is emerging as an alternative to conventional plug-in charging by enabling faster energy replenishment and reducing vehicle downtime.
With the targeted deployment of 40,000 EVs by March 2027 and 1 lakh vehicles by March 2028, Indofast Energy and Hala Mobility aim to scale battery-swapping infrastructure alongside the growth of India’s commercial electric mobility ecosystem.
