The International Solar Alliance (ISA) has signed a new agreement with the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) to expand training, education and talent development in clean energy for countries across the world.
The partnership aims to build a stronger global workforce in solar and clean energy sectors by combining ISA’s international reach with IIT Delhi’s academic strengths.
Why the Partnership Matters
ISA and IIT Delhi formalised what they call a Framework for Action to:
- Boost skills and training in renewable energy.
- Increase cooperation between ISA member countries in education and research.
- Develop a global solar energy talent pool that can support the world’s clean energy transition.
According to the ISA, this partnership builds on earlier success- including an ISA-supported Master of Technology (M.Tech) programme in Renewable Energy and Management offered by IIT Delhi, which has already trained over 100 professionals from Africa, the Asia-Pacific, and Small Island Developing States (SIDS). Many of these graduates are now working to expand solar power and clean energy solutions in their home countries.
In a statement, ISA highlighted that this collaboration marks the next phase of impact, strengthening long-term global cooperation in clean energy education and implementation.
New Training and Academic Initiatives
Under the new agreement:
A Train-the-Trainers postgraduate diploma programme will be introduced.
- This diploma will be developed through IIT Delhi’s academic network and in partnership with Institut National de l’Energie Solaire (INES) in France.
- It is designed to build structured, global training capacity for clean energy professionals.
ISA and IIT Delhi will also explore expanded academic pathways, such as:
- Master’s programmes in Public Policy
- Opportunities for PhD research focused on clean energy challenges and solutions.
These new offerings are expected to help strengthen the pipeline of highly skilled professionals working on solar energy deployment and climate action across ISA member countries.
