Nightpeak Energy has achieved financial close and commenced commercial operations at its 150 MW, two-hour Bocanova 2 battery energy storage project in Southeast Texas. The facility began commercial operations on September 17, bringing the total capacity of the Bocanova site to 300 MW. The expansion is expected to enhance grid flexibility within the ERCOT market as rising electricity demand from data centers and other large consumers puts increasing pressure on the power system.
Bocanova 2 is the second phase of Nightpeak’s battery storage development in Brazoria County, near the Houston metropolitan area. The first 150 MW phase, Bocanova 1, began commercial operation in August 2025.
Bocanova 2 uses Tesla’s Megapack 2 XL battery storage systems. Operating under a long-term offtake agreement with an investment-grade counterparty, the project was financed through a tax equity bridge loan and construction-to-term loan with MUFG Bank. U.S. Bank provided traditional tax equity.
Paris Hays, Co-founder and CEO/CDO, Nightpeak Energy, said, “We’re seeing large loads come to the grid at a pace and scale that is fundamentally changing how the power sector plans for new demand. Texas is at the forefront of that growth, and meeting it will require significant new infrastructure as well as resources that can respond quickly as conditions change. With 300 MW now operating at Bocanova, we’re putting that kind of flexibility to work in one of the most dynamic power markets in the country. We’re grateful to the City of Alvin, Brazoria County, and the local community for their support in bringing Bocanova to life.”
Since its founding in 2022, Nightpeak has developed and acquired a portfolio of over 1 GW of operating and de-risked capacity spanning gas-fired generation, battery storage and powered land development, and continues to advance an additional pipeline of flexible generation and large-load projects to meet growing demand in the U.S.
Nightpeak Energy develops, owns and operates flexible power generation and large-load enablement assets that help meet growing electricity and AI demand while supporting a reliable, lower-carbon electric grid. Applying a technology-agnostic approach across gas-fired generation, energy storage, renewables, and large-load project types, the company combines generation and load into integrated solutions for its customers. Nightpeak is a portfolio investment of Energy Spectrum Partners VIII, LP, which is an infrastructure-focused private equity fund based in Dallas, Texas.
