Anushakti Vidhyut Nigam Limited (ASHVINI), a joint venture between Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) and NTPC Limited, is preparing to issue a ₹28,000 crore Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) tender for the Rajasthan Nuclear Project, including Mahi Banswara Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (MBRAPP).
The tender will cover the Nuclear Island Mega EPC Package (NIMEP) for Units 1 to 4 of the project, each with a capacity of 700 MW Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs). Once floated, it will become the largest Nuclear Island EPC contract awarded under India’s indigenous PHWR programme.
The scope of the contract includes engineering, manufacturing, supply, civil construction, installation, testing and commissioning support for critical nuclear island systems across all four reactor units.
The Rajasthan Nuclear Project is expected to play an important role in strengthening India’s domestic nuclear manufacturing ecosystem. It is also likely to create significant business opportunities for Indian engineering and manufacturing companies by increasing local participation in one of the country’s largest nuclear infrastructure projects.
According to the company, the project aligns with India’s clean energy transition by expanding low-carbon baseload power generation. It also supports the government’s long-term goal of achieving 100 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2047, improving the country’s energy security while reducing carbon emissions.
The proposed EPC package is expected to boost indigenous capabilities in nuclear technology and reinforce India’s efforts to build a self-reliant nuclear power sector through greater domestic manufacturing and engineering expertise.
