Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL) has invited bids for the development of an 80 MW/320 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, under a 12-year Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) framework. The proposed project will feature four-hour energy storage capacity and will be deployed at identified load centres across the region.
The procurement aims to strengthen the distribution network and support electricity supply management through battery-based energy storage infrastructure.
Key Highlights of NPCL’s 320 MWh BESS Tender
- Project Capacity: 80 MW/320 MWh
- Storage Duration: Four hours
- Location: Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh
- Contract Model: 12-year BOOT
- Minimum Bid Capacity: 20 MW
- Maximum Bid Capacity: 80 MW
- Land Allocation: Right-to-use basis at ₹1 per plot annually
- RfS Issuance Date: November 3, 2026
Project to Be Developed Under 12-Year BOOT Framework
Under the proposed contractual arrangement, the selected developer will build, own and operate the BESS project for 12 years. Following the completion of the contract period, the entire project will be transferred to NPCL on an ‘as is where is’ basis for a nominal consideration of ₹1.
The distribution company will facilitate land allocation for project installations on a right-to-use basis, with an annual land charge of ₹1 per plot.
Bidders Can Offer Storage Capacity in 20 MW Blocks
NPCL has permitted bidders to offer storage capacities ranging from 20 MW to 80 MW in multiples of 20 MW, allowing participation based on project execution capabilities.
The tender follows a single-stage, two-envelope bidding process involving techno-commercial and financial bid submissions. Eligible bidders will also participate in an electronic reverse auction.
Interested companies are required to register on the designated electronic tender portal to access and download the bidding documents.
Technical and Operational Requirements for BESS Developers
The selected developers will be required to maintain specified operational performance standards throughout the contractual period.
The key performance requirements include:
- Minimum System Availability: 95% monthly availability.
- Round-Trip Efficiency: Compliance with prescribed efficiency requirements.
- Capacity Degradation: Adherence to annual capacity degradation criteria.
- Operational Performance: Maintenance of prescribed technical and reliability standards throughout the project period.
These requirements are intended to ensure the long-term operational performance and reliability of the battery storage assets.

Greater Noida to Add Standalone Battery Storage Capacity
The proposed 320 MWh standalone BESS project represents NPCL’s initiative to incorporate utility-scale battery storage into its distribution network. The project is expected to support electricity demand management and provide greater flexibility in managing power supply across identified load centres in Greater Noida.
Through the 12-year BOOT framework, NPCL aims to engage private developers for the development and operation of battery storage infrastructure before transferring ownership of the assets to the distribution company at the end of the contractual period.
