Ola Electric has expanded beyond electric two-wheelers into the energy storage market with the launch of a new portfolio of battery energy storage systems (BESS) designed for homes, commercial and industrial users, and utility-scale renewable energy projects.
The company unveiled three products on Saturday — Shakti Gen2 for residential applications, Shakti AC Rack for commercial and industrial users, and Mahashakti for large-scale energy projects. The portfolio spans from a 4.6 kWh home battery system to a 6.26 MWh containerised storage solution.
The Shakti Gen2 home battery will be offered in 4.6 kWh and 9.2 kWh variants, delivering 3 kW and 6 kW of power, respectively. The systems can be managed through Ola’s app and connected to solar panels using a separate charge controller. Introductory prices start at Rs 99,999, with deliveries expected from November.
For commercial applications, the Shakti AC Rack provides 73 kWh of storage and up to 50 kW of power through a three-phase inverter. A separate DC version will offer storage capacities ranging from 38 kWh to 77 kWh per rack, targeting infrastructure such as telecom installations that operate directly on DC power.
The Mahashakti range is aimed at larger energy consumers. A single Mahashakti Rack offers 257 kWh of storage and more than 125 kW of power, while its utility-scale container provides 6.26 MWh of storage and up to 2.5 MW of power output. Ola is targeting factories, warehouses, commercial buildings, data centres and grid-scale renewable energy projects with these systems.
The commercial and utility-scale products are expected to become available from March 2027.
Ola said the new portfolio will use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cell technology, leveraging its in-house capabilities across cells, battery packs and energy storage systems. The company is positioning energy storage as a new revenue stream while also seeking to improve utilisation of its cell manufacturing capacity.
The expansion builds on Ola’s existing Shakti home battery range, launched in October 2025 using its 4680 Bharat Cells. The company said the Shakti range had generated more than 50,000 customer leads by May.
