RUMSL Launches Renewable Power

Renewable Energy Management Services Limited (RUMSL) has launched a new renewable power tender featuring flexible energy storage options, reinforcing efforts to accelerate clean energy deployment while improving grid reliability. The tender is designed to encourage renewable energy developers to pair power generation projects with energy storage systems, enabling a more stable and dependable supply of electricity.

The initiative comes as India’s renewable energy sector continues to expand rapidly, increasing the need for flexible solutions that can address the intermittent nature of solar and wind power. Energy storage systems help store excess electricity generated during periods of high renewable output and release it when demand rises or renewable generation declines. This improves grid stability, reduces dependence on conventional power sources during peak hours, and supports efficient integration of renewable energy into the electricity network.

According to the tender framework, developers will have the flexibility to choose suitable storage technologies based on project requirements and commercial viability. This technology-neutral approach is expected to promote innovation while allowing bidders to optimize project costs and operational performance.

The tender is also expected to attract strong participation from independent power producers, renewable energy companies, and infrastructure developers looking to expand their presence in India’s fast-growing clean energy market. By offering flexibility in storage integration, RUMSL aims to encourage competitive bidding while ensuring projects remain commercially sustainable.

India has set ambitious renewable energy targets and continues to increase investments in solar, wind, and hybrid power projects. However, the growing share of renewable energy in the electricity mix has highlighted the importance of storage technologies in balancing supply and demand. Large-scale battery energy storage systems, pumped hydro storage, and other emerging technologies are increasingly being viewed as essential components of the country’s future power infrastructure.

Industry experts believe that tenders combining renewable generation with storage will play a crucial role in improving power reliability, reducing renewable energy curtailment, and supporting round-the-clock clean energy supply. Such projects are expected to strengthen grid resilience while helping distribution companies meet their electricity demand more efficiently.

The latest tender reflects the government’s broader strategy of integrating renewable energy with advanced storage solutions to facilitate a smooth energy transition. It also aligns with national efforts to reduce carbon emissions, enhance energy security, and increase the share of clean energy in the country’s overall power generation portfolio.

Interested developers have been invited to participate in the bidding process in accordance with the eligibility criteria and timelines specified in the tender documents. The outcome of the tender is expected to contribute significantly to the expansion of renewable energy capacity while accelerating the deployment of energy storage infrastructure across the country.
