Schneider Electric India Foundation (SEIF), the social impact arm of Schneider Electric in India, has partnered with the Government of Tamil Nadu to establish 70 advanced skill training centres across government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). On October 28, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay inaugurated the first 30 centres at the Government ITI in Guindy, Chennai. The initiative aims to strengthen vocational training and equip students with industry-relevant skills to improve their employment prospects.
The initiative is expected to create skilling opportunities for approximately 25,000 youth in electrical and industrial automation across the state. During the inauguration ceremony, an MoU was also exchanged between Schneider Electric India Foundation and the Tamil Nadu state government for setting up the additional 40 skill centres. The partnership is being implemented through the Directorate of Employment and Training, Government of Tamil Nadu.
Deepak Sharma, Zone President, Greater India, Managing Director and CEO, Schneider Electric India, said, “We thank the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for inaugurating these skill centres and recognising the importance of industry-relevant skill development. Building a future-ready workforce requires strong collaboration between industry and government. Through our partnership with the Government of Tamil Nadu, we aim to strengthen vocational training infrastructure, build trainer capabilities and equip young people with relevant energy technology skills, bridging the gap between technical education and evolving industry requirements.”
Focused on energy technology and industrial automation, the skill centres will provide advanced training infrastructure aligned with evolving industry requirements. SEIF will also train the trainers across all 70 ITIs to enable them to effectively use the facilities and deliver high-quality, industry-relevant training.
By combining advanced training infrastructure with trainer development, the initiative aims to strengthen Tamil Nadu’s vocational education ecosystem, improve access to industry-relevant technical skills and help prepare young people for emerging opportunities in the energy technology and industrial automation sectors.
