Solis, the inverter and energy storage solutions provider owned by Ginlong Technologies, has commissioned its first SolisStorage EverCore battery energy storage system in India at a software IT data centre in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Developed in partnership with Inforce Engineering Solutions LLP, also known as Inforce Solar, the project integrates an 870 kW rooftop solar system with a 500 kW battery storage unit offering 1.04 MWh of usable energy capacity.
The deployment marks Solis’ entry into India’s commercial and industrial (C&I) energy storage market with its EverCore platform, as businesses increasingly look to combine renewable generation with battery storage to manage electricity costs and improve energy resilience.
The system comprises four SolisStorage EverCore units, each with a storage capacity of 261 kWh, installed in a parallel configuration. Four S6-EH3P125K10-NV-YD-H hybrid inverters are used to integrate the battery system with the rooftop solar plant and the facility’s electricity demand.
During the day, the 870 kW rooftop solar array supplies electricity to the data centre, with surplus generation being stored in the battery system. The stored energy can subsequently be discharged during periods of higher demand or when grid conditions require, allowing the facility to increase its consumption of on-site renewable power.
The project comes as India’s data centre industry faces rising electricity demand from the expansion of cloud computing, digital services and artificial intelligence infrastructure. Data centres require continuous and reliable electricity, while operators are also under increasing pressure to reduce their carbon footprint and optimise energy costs.
Battery storage can provide data centre operators with an additional layer of energy-management capability alongside conventional backup systems. In the Chennai project, the storage system is designed to reduce dependence on diesel generation under suitable operating conditions by allowing stored solar energy to be used when required.
For C&I consumers, the combination of solar generation and battery storage can also help manage peak demand and improve renewable-energy utilisation. The system can store excess solar generation during periods of lower demand and discharge it during higher-demand periods, potentially reducing the facility’s reliance on grid electricity during expensive tariff periods. Honey Raza, country manager, Solis India, said the company remains focused on developing energy-storage solutions as India moves towards a cleaner and more resilient power system.
The Chennai installation also highlights the growing role of battery energy storage in India’s commercial and industrial renewable-energy market, where businesses are increasingly seeking solutions that go beyond conventional rooftop solar installations.
SolisStorage EverCore is Solis’ C&I battery storage platform. Each unit provides 261 kWh of storage and is designed to operate with Solis hybrid inverters. The modular architecture allows multiple units to be deployed together depending on the power and storage requirements of a facility.
In the Chennai project, the four EverCore units provide the system’s 1.04 MWh energy capacity, while the four hybrid inverters provide a combined power rating of 500 kW.
