The Sustainable Projects Developers Association (SPDA) recently held its Annual Meet in New Delhi, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, and stakeholders to review the current state of India’s renewable energy sector and outline its future growth strategy. The event focused on collaboration, policy dialogue, and advancing the sector’s development.
Clean Energy Central to India’s 2047 Vision
Addressing the gathering as Chief Guest, Shri Santosh Kumar Sarangi, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, congratulated SPDA for its ongoing contribution to the renewable energy landscape.
Shri Santosh Kumar Sarangi, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) said, “As India advances toward its vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047, sustaining economic growth above 7.5% will require significant expansion in manufacturing and electricity-intensive services such as AI, data centres and IoT. In this journey, reliable and clean energy will be indispensable.”
He further noted that the Viksit Bharat mission envisions multi-dimensional renewable energy growth. This includes distributed renewable energy, green open access, and emerging prosumer models enabled by digital platforms and the India Energy Stack. He highlighted that rooftop solar, storage solutions, and peer-to-peer electricity trading could transform traditional demand patterns.
He also noticed that hybrid and storage-integrated solutions are becoming more popular, especially in recent SECI tenders, because traditional solar and wind power may not be enough to meet DISCOM needs. Transmission planning is still very important because renewable energy sources are mostly found in a few states, while demand centers are spread out across the country.
Industry Strength and Future Priorities
Shri Vineet Mittal, Chairman of SPDA and Chairman of Avaada Group, emphasized the sector’s strong execution capability.
He stated, “India’s renewable energy sector has demonstrated strong execution capability, moving from projects measured in single-digit megawatts to consistently delivering capacity additions approaching 50 GW annually.”
He added that the sector now supports nearly one million jobs and is expanding domestic manufacturing of modules and cells. The next phase, he said, must focus on deeper localisation across the value chain, supply chain resilience, and long-term energy security.
He further remarked that achieving the 500 GW non-fossil fuel target will require sustained demand creation, timely PPAs, and large-scale hybrid and storage-backed solutions.
Roadmap and Sector Participation
The event saw participation from leading renewable energy companies across the value chain. SPDA also elected Shri Sandeep Kashyap, CEO of Purvah Green Power Pvt. Ltd (RPSG Group), as President for one year.
SPDA laid out a plan to promote green hydrogen, green ammonia, and renewable energy, strengthen policy advocacy, and grow its global presence. It also reaffirmed its goal of making India a global leader in clean energy.
