The Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science & Technology (DST) has formally signed an agreement to support InfinityX Innovations Private Limited in developing advanced, automated battery swapping infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs). The move is intended to accelerate EV adoption across India by reducing energy downtime and making recharging quicker and more efficient, particularly for high‑usage commercial vehicles and delivery fleets.
Funding to Scale Indigenous Swapping Solutions
The TDB has extended financial assistance to InfinityX Innovations to commercialize and scale its indigenous technology platform. The core of the initiative is a network of Internet of Things (IoT)‑enabled automated battery swapping stations capable of completing a full battery exchange in under 40 seconds an achievement that narrows the gap between EV energy replenishment and conventional refuelling.
This rapid manipulation of battery packs targets one of the significant bottlenecks in EV adoption long charging times and is expected to improve operational productivity for last‑mile delivery operators, fleet owners and gig economy riders.
Technology and Interoperability Focus
InfinityX’s system integrates advanced battery technologies with automated swapping infrastructure designed for thermal stability and reliability across a range of Indian climatic conditions. Its modular battery architecture promotes compatibility across multiple vehicle types, enabling interoperability and laying the groundwork for a broader, standardised swapping ecosystem.
The project also includes plans to build a factory in Bengaluru just for making next-generation battery packs and automated swapping systems. Officials think that this will make the manufacturing of EV infrastructure in the US stronger and make the country less reliant on technologies that are imported.
Government and Industry Perspectives
Shri Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary of TDB, emphasised that deploying efficient, scalable alternatives to traditional charging is critical for expanding India’s electric mobility footprint. He noted that automated swapping technology could play a transformative role in overcoming persistent barriers to EV adoption, especially in segments where fast turnaround time directly impacts earnings and productivity.
The CEO and Founder of InfinityX Innovations welcomed the support, stating that government backing would accelerate scaling of the platform and bring EV energy replenishment times closer to conventional fuel stops, enhancing the practicality and accessibility of EVs in everyday operations.
