The Government of India’s Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Technology Development Board (TDB) have signed a deal with Scharge Pvt Limited for a project called “Powering EV Charging Innovation.” The India–UK Collaborative R&D Programme for Industrial Sustainability is helping the project along with Albright Product Design Limited, which is based in the UK. The goal of the partnership is to come up with better and more efficient ways to charge electric vehicles (EVs).
Focus on Next-Generation EV Charging Solutions
The main goal of the project is to build a new type of EV charging system that is only for commercial fleets and depot operations. It uses a high-tech EV charger charge controller from Scharge Pvt Limited and a patented automated cable management system from its UK partner. This all-in-one solution should make things run more smoothly, safely, and easily in places where charging is in high demand.
Key Features of the Cable Management System:
- Overhead cable management system with motors for charging electric vehicles in fleets
- Lessens the need for manual handling during charging
- Reduces wear and tear on cables, which makes equipment last longer.
- Makes it easier for users to use and more convenient
- Works with AC Type-2 EV chargers that are already out there
- Shortens the time it takes for fleet operations to charge up again
- Keeps the depot charging infrastructure organised, efficient, and safe.
Enhancing Efficiency and Safety Standards
By addressing operational challenges such as cable handling, equipment protection, and workflow optimization, the solution aims to significantly improve the performance of EV charging depots. It also enhances safety by minimizing risks related to cable damage, vandalism, and operational hazards.
Scharge Pvt Limited is a new Indian EV technology company that works on smart charging systems and advanced power electronics. The company wants to improve India’s ability to charge electric vehicles and help build infrastructure that can grow and last for the country’s growing electric mobility sector.
Industry Perspective
Speaking on the development, Shri Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary, TDB, stated that collaborative R&D initiatives like the India–UK programme play a crucial role in accelerating industry-relevant technological advancements. He emphasized that innovations in EV charging infrastructure are vital for supporting the rapid adoption of electric mobility and building a future-ready ecosystem in India.
The person behind Scharge Pvt Limited thanked everyone for their support and said that the project will help create new and competitive EV charging solutions that meet the changing needs of fleet operators and infrastructure providers.
