Trontek, a lithium-ion battery manufacturer, has announced plans to create more than 500 jobs by FY27. This will expand the company’s workforce from 967 to around 1,400 employees. The company said the hiring push is a direct response to growing demand across electric mobility, residential energy storage, and grid applications, “segments that have seen sustained growth as India accelerates its transition away from fossil fuels.”
The expansion marks one of the largest hiring phases in Trontek’s two-decade history and reflects growing confidence among domestic battery manufacturers in India’s clean energy market.
Roles Across Production, Engineering, and R&D
The new positions will cover production, quality systems, battery engineering, research and development, logistics, and service operations. A significant portion of R&D roles will focus on battery management systems (BMS), thermal safety engineering, lifecycle optimisation, and product validation under Indian operating conditions.
Trontek said these areas “will determine competitive positioning as the market matures.”
“India’s battery ecosystem is entering a structurally strong growth phase,” said Samrath S. Kochar, Founder and CEO of Trontek. “As demand scales across mobility and home energy, the competitive advantage will increasingly come from engineering depth and manufacturing resilience. Our expansion reflects long-term confidence in this opportunity and our commitment to building both scale and capability.”
Training and Technical Expertise
Trontek plans to invest in specialised in-house expertise by launching structured technical training programmes covering lithium-ion assembly, safety compliance, electronics integration, and energy storage systems. These initiatives aim to prepare the workforce for higher manufacturing standards as the industry moves toward advanced battery applications.
“Battery innovation today is not just about chemistry, it is about intelligent system design, safety architecture and lifecycle performance,” Kochar said. “We are expanding our R&D teams to build robust, locally engineered solutions that can compete globally.”
Industry Context and Future Outlook
The announcement comes as lithium-ion adoption accelerates in electric two- and three-wheelers, rooftop solar installations, and distributed energy systems. Analysts expect strong growth over the next five years, with companies combining engineering expertise and scalable manufacturing positioned to lead.
Founded in 2004, Trontek manufactures batteries for over 400,000 e-rickshaws and 600,000 electric two-wheelers, and also serves telecom, grid storage, and residential energy markets. The company aims to strengthen domestic battery capacity, improve supply chain resilience, and support employment generation in India’s clean energy sector.
