TVS Motor Company has introduced the Orbiter V1 electric scooter, expanding its electric mobility portfolio with a more affordable option for urban commuters. The new model was launched on March 12, 2026, with prices starting at ₹49,999 (ex-showroom Delhi) under the company’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) subscription model. Without the BaaS plan, the scooter is priced at ₹84,500, inclusive of the PM e-Drive subsidy.
The announcement was made in Lucknow and simultaneously disclosed to the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange of India.
Battery and Performance
The Orbiter V1 is powered by a 1.8 kWh lithium battery, offering a certified IDC range of 86 km per charge. The smaller battery pack reduces charging time, allowing the scooter to charge from 0–80% in about 2 hours and 20 minutes.
The model joins the Orbiter V2, which has a 3.1 kWh battery and a range of 158 km IDC. TVS now has two versions of the Orbiter lineup, the V1 and the V2, to meet different range and budget needs.
Battery-as-a-Service Model
With the BaaS model, customers can buy the scooter without having to pay for the battery up front. Instead, people sign up for battery use through monthly plans.
Key features of the BaaS model include:
- Monthly subscription starting at ₹862
- Tenure options of 24, 36, or 60 months
- Unlimited distance usage regardless of plan
- Extended warranty up to 5 years or 70,000 km
TVS has extended the BaaS option across its entire electric scooter portfolio, including the TVS iQube.
Design and Technology Features
The Orbiter V1 carries several design and technology features from the Orbiter V2.
Key highlights include:
- 845 mm flat seat designed for rider and pillion comfort
- 34-litre under-seat storage, enough to store two helmets
- 14-inch front and 12-inch rear wheels
- LCD instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity
- Turn-by-turn navigation and over-the-air updates
The scooter also includes advanced safety and riding features such as Hill Hold Assist, Cruise Control, Parking Assist (reverse), regenerative braking, crash alerts, theft alerts, geo-fencing, and time-fencing. Riders can choose between Eco and Power riding modes.
Leadership Comments
Commenting on the launch, Gaurav Gupta, President of India 2W Business at TVS Motor Company said, “separating the vehicle price from battery usage cost gives customers a clearer picture of the total cost of owning an EV.”
Aniruddha Haldar, Senior Vice President heading the Commuter and EV Business added that “customer feedback on the Orbiter V2 directly informed the decision to introduce a more entry-level option, and that models like BaaS are intended to accelerate EV adoption at a broader scale across India.”
The launch comes as India’s electric two-wheeler market continues to grow rapidly, driven by subsidies, rising fuel costs, and increasing demand for affordable urban mobility solutions.
