Electric motorcycle manufacturer Ultraviolette and charging infrastructure provider Bolt.Earth have expanded their Type-6 DC fast-charging footprint to more than 130 locations across India, significantly surpassing the 50-charger goal announced when the partnership was launched in March 2026. The companies now plan to add another 200 charging stations over the coming two months as they accelerate efforts to establish a unified fast-charging ecosystem for electric two-wheelers nationwide.
The deployment already exceeds the companies’ initial target of 50 chargers by more than double, and another 200 chargers are expected within the next two months. The current network spans Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and West Bengal.
A key aspect of the rollout is interoperability. Riders using Ultraviolette F77 and Ultraviolette X-47 models can locate, activate, monitor, and pay for charging sessions through either company’s app without being locked into separate ecosystems.
The chargers use India’s Type-6 DC standard for lightweight EVs, formally defined under BIS IS 17017 and aligned internationally with IEC 62196-6. Unlike the slower AC chargers that dominate much of India’s current public charging infrastructure, these DC chargers are intended to reduce charging times substantially for motorcycles and scooters.
Current installations mainly use 3 kW DC chargers, capable of charging Ultraviolette motorcycles from 0–80% in around 2.5 hours and to full charge in roughly 3.5 hours. The companies also plan to introduce higher-capacity 6 kW and 12 kW chargers along highways and dense urban routes.
The partnership reflects a broader trend in India’s EV sector: manufacturers increasingly recognize that fragmented charging systems and incompatible software platforms create friction for buyers. Interoperable infrastructure is now emerging as a competitive necessity, especially for intercity electric two-wheeler travel where range anxiety remains a major concern. Community discussions among EV riders have repeatedly highlighted charging compatibility and charger reliability as decisive adoption factors.
Bolt.Earth says it ultimately plans to deploy 10,000 Type-6 fast chargers over the next two years, building what it hopes will become one of India’s largest dedicated fast-charging networks for electric two- and three-wheelers.
