Sedat Akar, General Manager of YESS Power, presented the Novaci hybrid power plant at the Belgrade Energy Forum 2026. The Turkish firm, which served as the energy storage integrator for the project in North Macedonia, expects the 30 MW / 60 MWh battery energy storage system to begin commercial operations in the third quarter of 2026.
Upon its commissioning in 2023, the 55 MW Novaci solar power plant in North Macedonia became the largest solar facility in the Western Balkans. Now, the project is setting another regional milestone through the integration of a battery energy storage system (BESS), transforming it into a hybrid power plant. The upgrade was carried out by Turkish company YESS Power for the plant’s owner, Skopje-based Mey Energy.
The BESS has 30 MW in operating power and 60 MWh of storage capacity. YESS Power’s General Manager Sedat Akar presented the project at the fourth Belgrade Energy Forum – BEF 2026. The battery system is on track to enter commercial operation in the third quarter of this year, he revealed.

The energy storage integrator is a brand of Turkish company Topkapı Endüstri. “Our mission is clear: to lead energy storage projects and provide efficient, profitable BESS solutions through smart energy management systems,” Akar underscored.
Cubenergy is its strategic partner in the home market and the Western Balkans. Akar pointed out that the China-based manufacturer has a global portfolio of 5 GWh on more than 450 BESS sites.
Each string has direct link to its container unit’s PCS
YESS Power’s chief executive pointed out that its all-in-one battery system design enables quick installation, optimized land use and preventing communication issues within the system. “We seamlessly integrate the AC/DC power conversion system into the AC block battery container. This is one of our secrets of this project,” Sedat Akar said.
The Novaci battery system uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP or LiFePO4) technology with liquid cooling. It consists of 20 storage and five transformer units, stepping up to the 33 kV level.
There are eight battery packs per string and eight of them per container. Each string is directly connected to the power conversion system (PCS). It means a malfunction in one string wouldn’t affect the remaining seven.
