ACME Solar Expands Battery Storage Footprint With New BESS Phase in Rajasthan

ACME Solar Holdings Limited has commissioned the second phase of its Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) under its Fully Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) project in Rajasthan, adding significant new storage capacity to the company’s renewable energy portfolio.

The newly commissioned Phase-II facility provides 52.32 MW/209.28 MWh of battery storage capacity. It forms part of a larger 300 MW/1,200 MWh FDRE project being developed at Kelan Village in Chhatargarh Tehsil, located in Rajasthan’s Bikaner district.

The second phase of the BESS was commissioned on September 17, 2026, while the project’s Commercial Operation Date (COD) is scheduled for September 19, 2026. The addition further increases the operational battery storage capacity of ACME Greentech Seventh Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of ACME Solar.

With Phase-II now commissioned, the subsidiary has reached a total commissioned BESS capacity of 105.95 MW/423.80 MWh. The development adds to ACME Solar’s growing presence in India’s utility-scale battery energy storage sector, where large storage systems are increasingly being integrated with renewable power projects.

The Rajasthan project combines renewable electricity generation with battery storage to enable the delivery of dispatchable renewable power based on the requirements of the project’s power supply arrangement. This model allows energy generated from renewable sources to be stored and subsequently supplied when required.

The project is backed by a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with SJVN Limited, while long-term project financing has been provided by REC. The combination of renewable generation and BESS is designed to support a more flexible power supply compared with generation from intermittent renewable sources alone.

ACME Solar is also working toward commissioning the remaining battery storage capacity associated with the project by the third quarter of the current financial year. Once the entire project is commissioned, it is expected to comprise 300 MW of renewable generation capacity supported by 1,200 MWh of battery energy storage.

The project represents another large-scale deployment of battery storage alongside renewable generation in Rajasthan, contributing to the development of dispatchable clean power infrastructure and the expansion of India’s utility-scale energy storage capacity.
