ACME Solar commissions Phase-I BESS project in Rajasthan

ACME Solar Holdings Ltd has commissioned the first phase of its Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Bikaner, Rajasthan, adding 53.63 MW/300 MWh of energy storage capacity to the grid.

The project forms part of ACME Solar’s larger 300 MW/1,581 MWh Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) project in Rajasthan. While the Phase-I storage component has been commissioned, the associated renewable energy generation component remains under construction.

The commissioning marks another step in ACME Solar’s expansion into utility-scale energy storage as India’s power market increasingly shifts towards renewable projects capable of supplying electricity during peak-demand periods.

BESS projects allow renewable power to be stored and dispatched when required, helping address the intermittency of solar and wind generation while improving grid flexibility and reliability.

ACME Solar has been expanding its presence in Rajasthan through a combination of solar, FDRE and storage projects. The company recently commissioned 66.68 MW under Phase-I of its 300 MW Bikaner solar power project.

The company has also secured significant project financing in recent months. India Infrastructure Finance Company Ltd (IIFCL) sanctioned ₹1,571 crore in August for its 300 MW peak-power project in Rajasthan, while Power Finance Corporation sanctioned ₹3,404.57 crore in July for a 250 MW FDRE project.

The latest BESS commissioning comes at a time when battery storage is becoming increasingly important for India’s renewable-energy expansion, particularly for supplying firm power beyond daylight hours.

For ACME Solar, completion of the remaining renewable generation capacity will be an important milestone in fully integrating the storage system with the FDRE project and enabling round-the-clock or peak-period renewable power delivery.
